Sometimes great art arranges itself subconsciously in the artist's mind and he finds himself carried by the muse to heights of meaning he could never achieve under his own direction. This also happens sometimes in the process of silly little love songs about food. I had been working on this song for three days (I know!) when I realized that my decision to play spoons on this song in particular was appropriate because the song talks about spoons and cereal, which I prefer irl (in real life!) to eat with spoons. Okay, actually I usually only use one spoon at a time, but still. This is a song that explains everything I know about love, pain and breakfast. If you listen to only one song before going to work in the morning as a heartbroken mess ready to give up on dating entirely, well, this song goes out to you.
lyrics
Sugary sweet morning treat or a delight in the afternoon
I can barely keep my face out of the bowl. Who needs a spoon?
My favorite is corn, or oats or maybe wheat. Then again,
the occasional bowl of grape nuts keeps us regular healthy men.
Oh, cereal monogamy
Some say the soggy, sloppy cereals simply taste better
some people like cereals that stay crispy under pressure
I've even heard that some have tried to eat them both together
oh, but cereal monogamy
We used to pretend our favorite ones were made of tiny rocks.
I even dreamed that one day they'd put my face on a box.
How come only jocks get their faces on the box?
Cereal monogamy.
