about

This is about rock and roll like they played it in the sixties: it's dirty and distorted, overdriven, clipped, strained, rushed and full all sorts of wondrous and sundry things classical musicians would technically refer to as "mistakes."

It's a heartfelt song about having a good time and about the power that our individual lives have in this big, complicated world. While I don't expect everybody to run out and dance until every last soldier is back, it might help if a few of us tried. It certainly wouldn't hurt things.

Let's go. Tell all your friends. Tell all my friends. Or maybe let's stick with your friends. If you actually told your friends, I think your friends are more likely to go out dancing in the streets to stop a war than my friends are.

Going back to that song you're listening to, though, I threw in a couple famous quotes from old scholars, because wisdom never goes out of style. It's also a way of showing that, although I may still be young, I like old people, and I'm not afraid of becoming one.

lyrics

D Bm C AmC

Dance in the street til the war is over.
It's the only way it's gonna stop.
When everybody's shakin' it out on the corner
Won't be nobody left to drop

Bombs

Respect is a right for all humanity
Love is stronger than hate
No intelligent God could have given us a mind
And expected us to accept fate.

Dance in the street...

We gotta make a difference in this world
And the best time is while we're alive.
All it takes to save the world
Is just to save one life

Dance...

If not us, who?
If not now, when?
If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I'm only for myself, Baby, what am I?
