Shakespeare at the Bank
G D C C Em C G D
Of the wide world, dreaming on things to come,
Duty so great, which wit so poor as mine
Whenas thy love hath cast his utmost sum
Than unswept stone besmeared with sluttish Time!
As he takes from you, I engraft anew
Of plagues, of dearths, or seasons' quality;
A liquid prisoner pent in walls of glass,
Of his self love, to stop posterity
Make sweet some vial; treasure thou some place
My tongue-tied muse in manners holds her still
Then can no horse with my desire keep pace
Take all my loves, my love, yea, take them all
That millions of strange shadows on you tend,
Sweet love, renew thy force, be it not said,
Obviously each line is from one of Shakespeare's sonnets, and the rhyme scheme comes out as quite a different sonnet, partly about a more modern topic, and partly indecipherable, perhaps.
